What the part is
The unit sits inside the ignition distributor. It reads the shaft angle and sets the spark timing; on some versions it also switches the ignition coil primary itself. It is not a crankshaft position sensor — a CKP sensor mounts on the engine block near the pulley and has nothing to do with the distributor.
